YOGA PAVILION CONCEPT

Proposal for a temporary pavilion to be erected in Edinburgh’s Meadows as a space to hold yoga and pilates classes. This project focused on materiality and construction, for which I chose to get inspiration from one of nature's most perfect and beautiful structures: Honeycomb. The comb like structure of this yoga pavilion fulfils the requirement for some privacy while still allowing maximum natural light and air through the space. The nature of the formation lends itself to the portability and need to be temporary. Two openings, maximising the views, face east and west respectively, suiting the tendency of yoga classes happening at both sunrise and sunset. Wood and glass were chosen to give the structure a very light and almost invisible feel as it settles quietly into its surroundings.
